SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - As Twin Rivers Unified students headed back to school on Tuesday, Aug. 18, the district is reminding drivers to slow down, watch for buses and help keep our students safe.

California Vehicle Code 22454 (a) prohibits drivers in both directions from passing a school bus when: the bus is stopped for the purpose of loading or unloading any school children; and, the bus displays flashing red lights and/or a stop signal arm.

Your Safety Checklist:

Don't block crosswalks.

Always stop for crossing guards.

Take extra care to look out for children in school zones, near playgrounds and parks and in all residential areas.

Obey posted school zone speed limits and avoid passing other vehicles.

Watch for kids riding bicycles, skateboards and scooters.

California state law requires anyone under 18 to wear a properly fitted and fastened bicycle helmet when riding a bicycle, non-motorized scooter, or skateboard.
