Join the Summer Reading Challenge

Reading for pleasure boosts your imagination and reduces stress. Adults and kids can participate in our Summer Reading Challenge and earn prizes just for reading. Sign up online to complete activities and track reading progress. Relive your old summer camp days

Lean into nostalgia and spend the afternoon crafting with us. We’re making friendship bracelet bag charms, bookmarks, and hosting a book swap at Adult Summer Camp on July 11. We’re also hosting Tote Bag Embroidery Craft Camp at several locations.

Get ready for your next build

Grab a baseplate and get ready to build at LEGO programs this summer. Kids can stretch their imaginations and learn how to build a robot. Adults can explore ways to regulate stress at creative wellness workshops.

Join a book group

Join a book group at your local branch or online. We also have a few programs on the American River Parkway this summer. Pick a genre like non-fiction, mystery, classics, quick reads, romance, graphic novels, horror, or mystery, and more.

Get creative

Learn how to crochet, dabble in watercolors, or experiment with a 3D printer at one of our creative spaces.  You'll find all sorts of free classes and equipment to create something new. 

Learn how to cook

Join us for a cooking demonstration and learn how to make recipes from Alana Kysar latest cookbook “Aloha Recipes.”

Catch a flick

Kick back and enjoy a movie at the library. See our calendar for classic moviesfamily movies, and sensory friendly family movies.

Kids eat free at the library

As of June 16, kids 18 and under can eat Lunch at the Library for free. Meals will be served Tuesday through Saturday from 12 to 1 p.m. at 13 locations. No registration is needed. Just drop-in for lunch. View locations and schedule at: www.saclibrary.org/explore-services/lunch-library

Grow a garden

Skip the store and get free seeds to start your own garden. Choose from herbs, edibles, and ornamentals from our Seed Library available at 18 locations. 

Play together

Check out board games and video games with your library card. We also offer learning kits for toddlers and preschoolers with toys and activities for check out.

As a library cardholder you get free access to books, eAudiobooks, streaming movies, online classes and tutorials, and more.
