RIO LINDA, CA (MPG) – The Rio Linda Lions Club held their 44th annual beef stew and pie on March 21 at the Rio Linda Grange, 1315 G St.

According to Gene Kypke, member of the Rio Linda Lions Club, the event went very well. Vice President Bill Higgins served as chairman and head cook for the event. Rio Linda Elverta Country Lions Club Leos worked in the kitchen and as servers at the event, which drew nearly 80 attendees.

The annual event was originally called Buck Stew, when a member named Buck gave his recipe to the club. In 2005, the event name was changed to Buck Stew to attract a wider audience, and a pie auction was also introduced at this time.

According to Kypke, there were 24 pies donated to the raffle, including one pie from an affluent Colfax bakery which has sold for up to $200 in previous years.

The event included raffle prizes, a door prize, and of course, lots of eating. Members of the Lion Club spent much of the evening taking care of attendees, keeping the event running smoothly and staying to clean up-post event.

The Rio Linda Lions Club is an active non-profit seeking to serve the community through service events and partnering with other non-profit organizations.
