RIO LINDA, CA (MPG) – Forget roses and chocolates, bingo cards and daubers are the real stars this Valentine’s season as families are invited to shout “Bingo!” at the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District’s popular Valentine’s Day Bingo night, a family-friendly event that has quickly become a local favorite.
This Valentine’s-themed bingo night will take place Friday, Feb. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the RLE Community Center, 810 Oak Lane. Open to ages 5 and up, the event invites families to enjoy an evening of games, prizes and sweet community vibes for $5 per person.
“This event actually started back in February 2023,” said Yanni Lagge, recreation supervisor for the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District. “We originally hosted a Valentine’s Day dance, but over time we noticed it wasn’t as popular as it used to be. Bingo is something the whole community can enjoy, and it quickly became a favorite.”

Lagge said the shift paid off. The past two years have sold out, and this year is shaping up to do the same.
“We wanted to offer a Valentine’s Day event that families with children 5 and up could participate in together,” Lagge said. “Bingo was a great choice because it creates an upbeat atmosphere and gives everyone a chance to win prizes.”
Attendees can expect multiple bingo games throughout the evening, along with plenty of laughs and opportunities to win family-friendly prizes. Among the prizes up for grabs are tickets to Fairytale Town, mini golf passes, Laugh Unlimited tickets and other donated items, with more prizes still being added.
For event veterans, there’s a familiar voice returning to the microphone. The event will once again feature the same bingo caller from previous years, a local community member who volunteers her time and has become a beloved part of the experience.

“Attendees can expect a fun night full of bingo games, laughs and chances to win prizes,” Lagge said. “It’s a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with families and friends, and it’s one of those events where everyone can be involved from start to finish. Plus, it’s an awesome community night out that’s affordable and local.”
The event is designed to be kid-friendly and family-oriented. Families are welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks, though alcohol is not permitted. Organizers note that no walk-up registrations will be accepted, and online registration is required for each family member attending.
Tickets are already moving fast.
“Tickets are selling quickly this year,” Lagge said. “We’re already at the halfway point on ticket sales, so we definitely encourage families to register soon.”
