RIO LINDA, CA (MPG) - With temperatures ranging from 95 degrees Fahrenheit to about 100 degrees, a small but enthusiastic group of young entrepreneurs gathered on July 12 outside the Dry Creek Ranch House for the Kids Community Swap Meet.
Among the vendors was Remy Bertoglio, a Rio Linda resident who brought an array of colorful 3D-printed toys she designed with her dad. Her table featured boats, turtles, pencil toppers, dragons, lizards and other small figures. Several of them glowed in the dark, including her personal favorite, a fish. One of the more unique items was a stingray that could also take the shape of a scorpion.
Nearby, her mother Tarryn Bertoglio served sodas from Splash Soda, a local business she co-founded with her mother, Dina Nelson.
“My husband originally got interested in the 3D-printing and the kids soon found that he could make them a lot of cool little toys,” Tarryn Bertoglio said. “We found out about the Rio Linda Swap meet and just thought it would be the perfect thing to share with everybody.”
Hosted by the Rio Linda Elverta Historical Society and Girl Scout Troop 1565, the event invited local kids to sell, trade and showcase their goods while gaining hands-on experience in entrepreneurship. The turnout was modest, but the energy and effort from the kids who participated made the morning feel lively and meaningful.
Remy and her brother stayed cool beneath a pop-up canopy as they sold their toys for a few dollars each. She said she started 3D-printing a few months ago, and her first design was a small boat.

With a limited menu of their most popular flavors, the soda stand provided a refreshing option for visitors. Tarryn Bertoglio said the swap meet was a great opportunity to help kids learn how to present and sell their products.
Tarryn Bertoglio said 3D-printed charms on straws and cups could be soon coming to Splash Soda and the kids could be making appearances with their toys at other events in Rio Linda
Raylene Sandau, a member of Girl Scout Troop 1565 from Citrus Heights, set up her table in the shade near the ranch house.
She sold clothes that no longer fit and a few accessories, including a set of press-on nails. By midmorning, she said she had earned $11.
Sandau said she planned to donate any clothes or items that she did not sell or trade at the swap meet.
The swap meet was scheduled from 9 a.m. to around 3 p.m., highlighting the creativity, resourcefulness and resilience of the kids who participated. The Dry Creek Ranch House is located at 6852 Dry Creek Road in Rio Linda.
