Tucked Away in Rio Linda

RIO LINDA, CA (MPG) - Elkhorn Outdoor Sports is a surprising sports shop and U-Haul rental business. Random combination? I thought so too. But it works for them. Elkhorn Outdoor Sports is a fisherman’s candy store and has been there since 2016. It is located at 6745 20^th street, Rio Linda, Calif. Owned by Tim Boggs, this store is so tucked away that there is a big sign on the corner of the block directing your attention towards them.

Once you turn onto 20^th Street, you will find it on your right hand side. It looks like a house, and it’s kind of hidden by the brush, but you can look for the U-Haul trucks. When you go inside, it is surprisingly big! There are hooks and lures of all sizes. In addition, they have the equipment for building your own lures, if that’s what your fishing trick is.

Elkhorn Outdoor Sports sells live bait, from minnows, a substantial selection of worms, ghost shrimp, all of the frozen bait that is obtainable right now and crawdads… as well as other live bait. Of course, they have a selection of poles and reels as well. You can even find spices for cooking your catch or kill.

Elkhorn Outdoor sports also has guide services for hire, available in the Sacramento and American River, as well as other locations in the Sacramento area to fish. They are very good at showing the first timers how to use the fishing equipment.

If you’re not a newcomer, but it’s been a while since you’ve fished, that’s ok. Elkhorn Outdoor Sports sells hunting and fishing licenses, along with any tags that may be required. They also have a selection of snacks, soda and beer. What is fishing without beer?

The sign on the corner of the block says that they have guns and ammo, but that is no longer the case. They do, however, have hunting gear. In addition, they have some books on gun related topics. The hunting gear is often 50% off, so if you are a huntsman, you should stop in to see what a great deal they have on decoys, camos, and other hunting gear.
