RIO LINDA, CA (MPG) – The Rio Linda Lions Club is gearing up for the fourth annual Ducky Derby on April 28. Residents are encouraged to join and have fun, win fabulous prizes, and support the community service efforts of the Rio Linda Lions Club and other community service organizations at this family event.

Ducks will be launched into Dry Creek at Elkhorn Boulevard at about 12:30 p.m. on April 28. The racecourse will be established by the Rio Linda Lions Club and will be approximately a third of a mile long. Once the ducks are launched, they are on their own. No attempt to free or interfere with any duck is permitted during the race.

All adopted ducks entered will be provided by and shall remain the property of the Rio Linda Lions Club. The cost to adopt one duck is $5, a Quack Pack (six ducks) is $25 and a Flock of Quack (25 ducks) is $100.

A number will be attached to each duck relating to the number on the adoption certificate and a comprehensive spreadsheet will be available for viewing during the event.

The person, company or team name that appears on the adoption spreadsheet corresponding to the numbers of the ducks in order of finish will be awarded prizes. The last duck that crosses the finish line within 30 minutes of the first duck crossing will receive the lame duck prize. Prizes range from $25 to $100-plus.

Any ducks that cross the finish line 30 minutes after the first duck crosses the line aside from the single Lame Duck Winner will not win a prize. The event will end at 3 p.m.

The entry portion of each race ticket must be completely filled out and delivered to a Rio Linda Lions club member or an authorized representative of the Rio Linda Lions Club prior to the race for the adopted duck to be eligible to win any prize.

No purchase is necessary to enter to win. The Rio Linda Lions Club does encourage a donation of $5 per duck to benefit the Rio Linda Lions Club or another approved community service organization. Other participating groups include Elkhorn BMX and the Girl Scouts.

Winners will be announced at the race finish line at Hayer Park at 905 G St, Rio Linda. A list of race winners will be posted on the Rio Linda Lions website at www.riolindalionsclub.com.

While a donation is required for guests to receive a barbecue meal and drinks, admission is free for the Duck Race and the Bounce House.
